Take a seat, ground beef! Italian sausage steps up to replace traditional ground beef in this cheaper, more flavorful meat loaf recipe that’s filled with two kinds of cheeses and Italian bread crumbs and everything else that’s good in life.

Cheesy Italian Sausage Meatloaf

Ingredients

  • 1 lb bulk Italian sausage
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (4 oz)
  • 3/4 cup finely chopped onions
  • 1/2 cup Progresso™ Italian style bread crumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/4 cup canned Muir Glen™ organic tomato sauce
  • 1 tablespoon thinly sliced fresh basil leaves

Instructions

    Heat oven to 350°F. Spray 8x4-inch loaf pan with cooking spray. In large bowl, mix sausage, mozzarella cheese, onions, bread crumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, salt and pepper; stir to combine.

    Press mixture in loaf pan; spread evenly. Bake 30 minutes. Top with tomato sauce; bake 25 to 30 minutes longer or until cooked all the way through in center (meat thermometer inserted in center reads at least 165°F). Let stand 5 minutes. Run knife around edge of pan. Gently remove from pan; cut in 8 slices. Top with basil.
