If ravioli are good, then king-sized fried ravioli are even better, especially when they’re stuffed with a beefy, cheesy Italian filling and served with warm marinara sauce for dipping.

  • If we didn’t have you at fried wonton, did we have you at fried wonton ravioli? Thought so. Wonton wrappers are sheets of pasta that are stuffed. They can be steamed, boiled, fried or baked, but we highly recommend this fried recipe for the ultimate satisfying crispiness. When you go to buy wonton wrappers, don’t confuse them with dumpling wrappers. Although the two share similarities, wonton wrappers are square and dumpling wrappers are usually circular. The textures are also slightly different. You can usually find wonton wrappers in the produce section of your grocery store, near the egg roll wrappers and tofu. This wonton ravioli recipe is a brilliant addition to game day or for a party, but since ravioli is an entree, you can eat fried wontons for dinner, right? We say yes. Fried Beef Wonton Ravioli

Ingredients

  • 1/2 lb lean (at least 80%) ground beef
  • 3/4 cup whole milk ricotta cheese
  • 3/4 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (3 oz)
  • 3/4 cup shredded Parmesan cheese (3 oz)
  • 3 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 44 wonton wrappers
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 2 cups vegetable oil
  • 1 jar (25.5 oz) Muir Glen™ tomato basil pasta sauce or marinara sauce

    In medium bowl, mix beef, ricotta cheese, mozzarella cheese, 1/2 cup of the Parmesan cheese, the garlic, salt, black pepper and pepper flakes.

    Place 4 wonton wrappers on work surface. Brush edges of each wrapper with egg. Place rounded tablespoon of beef mixture in middle and flatten, leaving 1/2-inch border all the way around wrapper. Place another wrapper on top of each filled wonton, stretching dough gently to fit if necessary; press edges firmly to seal. Repeat with remaining wrappers and filling.

    In 12-inch nonstick skillet, heat oil over medium-high heat until hot. Place 4 to 5 wonton ravioli in skillet; cook 3 to 4 minutes, turning once, until both sides are brown and filling is cooked through. Drain on paper towels. Repeat with remaining ravioli.

    Meanwhile, in 5- or 6-inch cast-iron skillet or 2-quart saucepan, heat pasta sauce over medium heat to simmering. Remove from heat; sprinkle remaining 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese over top. Serve warm sauce with fried ravioli.
