Sangria is usually associated with summer, but with a few tweaks you can make the recipe appropriate for the holiday season. Skip summer-appropriate fruits like oranges in favor of apples, pears and cranberries, and spike your mix with applejack instead of the traditional brandy. Fun and festive, this recipe is a great option for a pre-Thanksgiving dinner nip.

More About This Recipe

  • Sangria is usually associated with summer, but with a few tweaks you can make it appropriate for fall and the holidays.

Just skip summer fruits like oranges in favor of apples, pears and cranberries, then spike your mix with applejack instead of the traditional brandy. Fun and festive, this recipe is a great option for a pre-Thanksgiving dinner nip!

Cut one pear and one apple into cubes.

Place chopped fruits into a pitcher with whole, fresh cranberries.

Add ice to the pitcher, filling it to slightly below the halfway mark.

Then add a bottle of your favorite red wine.

When choosing a wine to use as a base for your sangria, look for fruity options around the $10 mark. There's no need to buy something expensive since there will be other ingredients in the mix!

Add half a cup of applejack liqueur or brandy.

Then add half a cup of orange liqueur, also known as triple sec.

Finally, fill a wine glass with ice and garnish with a pear slice.

Pour sangria into the glass and enjoy!
