  • Apple-filled sausages are all over the supermarket this time of year and it’s really fun to use them in new recipes that bring out the apple flavor. The most obvious way to bring out the apple flavor is to cook them with apples! That’s where this awesome pizza comes in. The sausage and apples on this pizza are really sweet, so we need to pair it with something deep and savory to balance things out a bit. We know there will be salty cheese, but something else needs to really drive home the umami. That’s where caramelized onions and garlic help. Instead of a tomato sauce, spread on some oil that's loaded with deeply browned onion and you have a delicious pizza that hits all the flavors you want to eat right now. Sweet and savory. A little green onion on top adds a certain freshness and bite to the pizza. Get ready to devour the flavors of fall!

Ingredients

  • 1 can (11 oz) refrigerated Pillsbury™ Thin Crust Pizza Crust
  • 2 apples
  • 2 chicken apple sausages (fully cooked)
  • 2 cups mozzarella cheese
  • 1 large onion
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 2 scallions
  • 1 lemon

Instructions

    Slice the onions and cook in a little butter or oil until well browned, about 30 minutes. Add in the garlic just as the onions are about done and cook an additional 2 minutes. Remove from heat and add a little more oil if it is dry.

    Preheat oven to 450°F. Slice the apples into thin half moons. Immediately toss them in the lemon juice so they don't brown. Cut your sausages into half moons to mimic the apples slices.

    Unroll your pizza dough and spread or brush on the onion, garlic and oil mixture. Add 3/4 of the cheese and then add the apples and sausages. Top with the remaining cheese.

    Bake for about 12 minutes until browned and delicious.
